Numerous abandoned wells are located in McDonough County and throughout the state. They can serve as direct conduits for surface pollutants, such as bacteria and pesticides, to enter the subsurface. As such, each well is a potential threat to both the safety of the landowner and the health of any nearby individuals or communities that rely on groundwater.
